Hi Ladies,
Does anyone know if (and where) you can buy Aptamil 1 pre-made baby formula bottles?

I'm travelling back to Oz in a few weeks and will need some.

If anyone has any tips on long haul flights with a newborn ( just me as husband is working) happy to hear your tips!

Thanks

If you are looking for ready made Aptamil 1 (that is from birth up to 6 mo) then Waitrose in Dubai Marina mall doesn't have it these days (I do check it every time I'm there), but yesterday I saw it in Spinneys which is in Meadows Town Centre (however you need to read the labels carefully as it doesn't really say 1 but somewhere it says "from birth to ...) Sorry I was wrong. Waitrose in Dubai Marina mall does have it - both Aptamil 1 and Aptamil without any number which just says from birth

Take some extra ziplock bags in case you need to seal away any vomited-upon clothes! We used to do this as well for disposing of smelly diapers after late-night changes in hotels. Since the airplane toilets are tiny, I used to partially undress my baby before I went into the toilet for a diaper change. This made for a faster and easier change.

Sorry if i'm repeating as I haven't read the other posts. I did this stretch recently and it was great.Just a few things to note though. We couldn't book a bassinet seat as they were all taken by the passengers who had boarded in London. They were all taken by kids too as if there was a single adult in one of those seats the air stewardess told me they would ask them to swap. What they did do was put me in the very back row right next to the toilets. This was such a huge help as i was never disturbing anyone behind me, when the trolleys were out I could still use the toilets without having to wait, stewardess's were just behind me to hold the baby when i needed the toilet. We did have a nappy explosion on the flight which was fine for baby as i had a change of clothes and nappies but I didn't have a spare top so I would advise taking a change of clothes for yourself. I used the Aptamil pre made baby formula which made life so much easier. I took hand luggage which had everything in, my books, baby stuff etc... I wouldn't do this again, I would keep a bag separate just for baby stuff as it was a nightmare rooting through when I was looking for baby stuff quickly. I know this seems extreme but I would take my own food on the flight. The tray is a pain in the **** if you're not in a bassinet seat. If your baby cries and you hear tuts or moans from others then please take no notice (if it bothers them that much they can put the headphones on) as you'll end up getting stressed out. I had a lovely lady sat across the isle from me and she took the baby just for 5 mins to rest my arms. It REALLY helped so take the offer up if its there. I had a great flight with Quantas. The staff were fantastic and couldn't do enough for me and my 2 girls. I hope you have a good experience as I can remember dreading doing this on my own with the kids.

Hi poomba, No there is a limited amount of bassinets you must call emirates now and book one. And you sit in the front rows. Yes the kettle is the thing that worries me on the plane, you can watch them to make sure they are using bottled water...but kettle is iffy! If your flying emirates which we do...we get water from the lounge and then your checked straight in from there. I say take both powder and ready made. If your a 1st time mom to travel make sure you give a bottle for take off and landing so they are not bothered with the force. Also take a baby carrier it will save your arms!

Thanks for all your replies ladies! Some good info you've shared with me! Definitely will bring a spare set of clothes for me also.... That seems to be quite common, it happened to my sister and her LO when flying from Oz! Will check out the remade bottles from Waitrose/choitroms and also bring a bit of formula with me. I'm gonna check I get a bassinet... God help me and everyone around me if I don't get one!!

I've always packed the dry formula in individual bottles and just asked the flight attendants to add the right amount of warm water. Easier than the pre-made stuff and warm. The easiest flight you'll take with your child will be when she is a newborn. She'll sleep the whole time. Do get to the airport early and try to get a bassinet seat. Don't be surprised when there are single men travelling alone who end up in those seats while you are placed somewhere else! I would prefer dry formula to be honest, but it's the water I'm not sure about. I've heard you can bring water through security if it's for babies... But don't want to do this to then have it taken off of me... And left with nothing to feed the baby... I think I'll take some anyhow and get the water in the plane like you said. Also, I thought a bassinet seat was confirmed if travelling with a baby?? I'm flying emirates - can someone confirm when you book with an infant it guarantees you a bassinet? I dread the poor person next to me if I don't get one!

Hi, I have seen individual premixed formula at choithrams maybe call them and ask so your not driving all over Dubai. Tips on travelling, wet wipes big bag! Light Blanket for the top of the bassinet as the draft is bad when baby laying in it! We make a tent ontop of the baby. Dry formula is lighter to travel with but you never know how clean there water is. Yes change of clothes for you, vomit is very common on flights i noticed. Bring enough diapers, sleepers so baby is comfy and covered. Oh and a change table mat for when you change diaper. Happy flight. ..I will be doing this in august. Thanks Pinkdiamondz! Lots of good ideas! Good luck on your flight also ?

Just to add, following on PD's post, make sure they make the hot water from bottled water. Usually they do but just double check.

I find it makes it easier to have all the essentials for the flight in a bag that fits under the seat and keep it there (or get it down once you are in the air if you are in a bassinet seat) . It's a pain when you are travelling alone with a baby to have to keep getting things out of the overhead locker whilst juggling your baby. Also, take a change of clothes for yourself. One of my friends had her baby vomit all over her at the start of a 14 hour flight. She said she reeked of milky vomit the whole way :\:
