I add my vote FOR Malarone and AGAINST mefloquine, from personal and professional experience! Never had a problem with Malarone / Malarone Junior. Interesting that you say professional experience. I realise that of course you cannot state what it is you do and your opinion directly relating to that, but my doctor told me that he never had a true idea how heinously bad the side effects were for Mefloquine until he took it himself. He simply won't prescribe it now.

Another vote for Malarone. My first time to Africa, I was prescribed a different one (can't remember name--I know--not helpful!) and I felt funny on this med. I switched to Malarone for my other trips there, and have had no issues except the rather amusing trippy disco ball dreams. Malarone is the choice of all the expats I know there. Note: although the Malaria carrying mosquitos really only come out at dusk and at dawn, the others that fly about all day can be annoying! A friend of mine introduced me to vitamin B patches, which surprisingly made me less appealing to mosquitos. I think they are made by OFF.

I always take Malarone when travelling to Malaria countries. Never had any problems or side-effects.

I took Mefliquine and it was a truly horrendous experience! I was so dizzy that I fell over in Dubai Mall, onto a mannequinn and pulled over a clothes rack trying to right myself. I looked drunk! I was nauseous, dizzy and so so so vague. I stopped taking it after the first tablet (you take one a week) but the side effects lingered for days. NEVER again!

After seeing what a close friend went through with Mefli. I will nev ever take that drug. She got all side effects mentioned and it came close to ruining her health for ever. That is only a layman's opinion obviously, but I'd do Malarone if I had to.

Hi, We took the kids to Africa over Christmas and were all prescribed Malorone (which we purchased from City Hospital Pharmacy). Apart from a couple of very strange dreams, there were no side effects. I would be happy to recommend it.

Please could someone give me some feedback on their experience with Malaria tablets. I am travelling with children to Africa and have been given the option of Mefliquine or Malarone Malaria medication. I know that not everyone suffers from side effects but has anyone taken either of these medications and what if any side effects did you suffer ? Many thanks, I must fill this prescription today and begin the course so I would be really grateful for some advice.:)
