I had some terrible home perms when i was a teenager. Looking at photos i cant believe how bad they were and yet i thought i looked fab! haha haha! that's me. Except the bangs, those were straight and sky high! What stinks is the last home perm she gave me never went away. :( I had very long, gorgeous straight hair and now...I look like some Viking warrior chick if I let it air dry.

If you really really still want a perm then go for a digital perm. Korean ladies (who are known for stick straight hair) use this to get curls and waves in their hair. You can choose how intense you want your curls or waves. Best to take a picture along. There is a Korean Salon near Lamcy Plaza that is known for doing this well. http://koreansalondubai.com/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Huix0VheQcY edited by Asti on 19/10/2012

HB, Dare I tell you that I never went to the hairdresser in 5 years, I cut it myself all the time and mainly wore it up in a clip . But...... when kids went back to school last month I nipped to a little beauty salon called Ninas and a male hairstylist cut it like this [url=http://media26.onsugar.com/files/2011/09/36/2/1852/18524404/b8e737b8a0ccdd0a_Short_Bob_Hairstyles_2011_B.jpg'>link[/url'> yep as you can see it is straight, and because my 'crystal tips' hair is prolly not as thick as yours, it has held pretty well now the weathers cooled off a bit. When he blow dried it originally, it looked just like the picture, now that I have to do it myself I just can't get it straight, but am happy with a bit of a kink. The cut made all the difference, am definitely going back. edited by Alismum on 19/10/2012

I love very, very, very straight hair. It's actually quite rare and looks spectacular when it's really long. The way it flows, cascades down the back, the shininess of it. Embrace it. My hair's a mass of frizzy, wavy, craziness, but I've embraced it since coming to Dubai. No amount of blowdrying and flat-ironing will keep it looking styled in this humidity. So crazy and unkept (and long) it will remain ;) are we twins? We may just be hair twins! I'm so, so glad I decided to grow my hair out before coming here. I used to have a short, blond, blow-dried straight bob. That would've been a complete and utter disaster in Dubai: pyramid-head anyone?

I did a big search last year...couldn't find it at all in Dubai. I get it done every summer back home. A lot has changed since 80's! It only takes 9 min chemicals in my hair and for me that's all I do for my hair. It's long hair ,looking natural curly, which I only cut also 1 time a year and never blow dry ( which is the killer for your hair). I permed my hair for years (in the 80s) and then gave up. It is best to work with what you have and a really good cut will work wonders. Keep in mind that some people pay lots of money to make their hair straight.

I also have very straight hair and had the poodle perm in the '80s (and didn't look cute...). Do you colour your hair at all? If so, I would really advise against perming as well. Colour + perm = ruined hair that will break as soon as you look at it. A decent stylist can give your hair lots of bounce and volume which looks way better than sad perm curls. I do understand your frustration. I could never understand the fashion for really straight hair when that's what nature had blessed me with and, in my opinion, is really unattractive. Have you thought about a fringe? What about straighteners? I know that sounds ridiculous but they can be used to give you really nice waves. A curling wand can do the same but straighteners (because of how you do it; it's as if you were curling a ribbon with a pair of scissors) have a longer affect. Layers can help give bounce. Go and see a top stylist for a consultation and avoid the poodle look if you can! edited by emmsie on 18/10/2012

I too have very straight hair, had a perm years ago which lasted less than 3 weeks. Expensive and pointless... too many chemicals will result in your hair breaking off, a friend of mine went to Toni & Guy back in England and even they messed up, she had to have her hair cut very short.

Accept that your hair is straight. Don't invest in chemical treatments like perms which will damage its natural style. edited by Expatriate on 18/10/2012
