Hi,

My 8 month old is teething and has developed horrible nappy rash. She had it once before back in the uk and the doctor told me to get Metanium, which cleared it up in a couple of days, but I can't seem to find it out here.
Does anyone know if there is anywhere I can buy it or can someone please recommend a cream that works as well. So far I've tried Sudocrem, Bepanthen and Mustela, but the rash is just getting worse. I feel so bad that nothing I'm doing seems to be helping!
TIA

I use Desitin as well, and it has always worked wonders. Just can't find it anywhere here! The pediatrician told me the higher the zinc oxide in the diaper cream, the better. Desitin has 40% compared to 12-16 in most other brands. When I didn't have that, air time without a happy helped as well. Although, yes, that can get messy! Good luck!

My daughter has very sensitive skin and therefore she's Always had a rash. Dr prescribed egozite it did help, but lately I feel like she's become immune! Most important things to remember is to make sure she is always dry before the nappy goes back on, and definitely dry before you apply any cream, trapping in moisture will make it worse. Also if possible take of the nappy off right after a bowel movement and let it air, that's the best thing for my daughter. I also got Desitin from USA from a friend and it's working wonders, doubt it's available here. Good luck. P.s. I'm willing to split the Desitin with u, I know how difficult a nappy rash can be :( Thanks Elabella1, that's very kind of you. I'll see how we go with the hydrocortisone cream and if it doesn't work i'll be in touch! :-)

Thanks so much for all the advice and suggestions, I now have a list of things to try. I went back to Boots today and they've given me some hydrocortisone cream to try, so I'll see if that works, if not I'll start working my way down the list. Poor little thing is so uncomfortable with it, fingers crossed something will work soon!

If you know any Aussies then see if they have any papaya/pawpaw ointment. It's amazing stuff. I'd never heard of it till we were in Malaysia and all the Aussies were using it.I've a vague memory of seeing someone out here using it and them saying they'd bought it here. As far as i remember it comes in a red tube or jar. I've just had a quick google..Lucas is the make and apparently it can sometimes be found in Spinneys

Poor baby (both of you!) I had this with my youngest and it was chronic. Lots of air time, occasional baby powder (I know it's not recommended by a lot of drs but it helped us), and most importantly - NO BABY WIPES. Even the tiniest bit of alcohol they put in the solution to keep them moist irritated her bum. Washclothes much better.

Fucidin H & vaseline over the top ...worked wonders for our LO, recommended by our paediatrician but you can just ask for it at the pharmacy. When he was teething, it got so bad, even giving him a bath was painful!!

DS had an episode of diarrhea and resulting nappy rash -- we actually had to go back to the emergency because the rash was so painful....the emergency doctor prescribed Nystalocal... in addition to Mustela repair cream. We applied Nystalocal and Mustela repair 3 times a day for 5 days max, but the rash was considerably better the next morning and cleared up in 2 days. You might want to check with your pediatrician or the pharmacist if it is ok to use on your 8 month old as DS was about 2years and a few months when we used it on him. Hope your little one gets better soon.

you could try boil one tbsp corn strach in the one glass of water and wash your baby by it. If you can not give her nappy off time try to wear muslin for her instead.

http://www.naturesnaturalhealing.com/DiaperRash.shtml Try a natural remedy. I did the teabags one (dry teabags in pampers) and it worked, as did slathering the rash in honey. Desperate times and back in the olden days we only had Sudocrem if someone would hand carry it back from the UK, so we always tried home treatments first.

metanium is the best nappy rash cream, but they dont sell it here, if you can get hold of some its the best, its yellow sticky gooey stuff and if stays on the bum after 1 application it works better than the white sudocream stuff. http://www.boots.com/en/Metanium-Nappy-Rash-Ointment-30g-_8692/ this is the stuff, go and ask in boots here to see if they now stock it. its the best edited by busybee2 on 17/02/2013

I'm sorry, I've no idea, I'm way past the nappy stage (in so many ways :) ) and just found an online recommendation on an older thread. Good luck, see if you can ask them to order it for you, perhaps?

I have tried giving her airtime, but her poos are of quite an explosive nature at the moment, so it's not ideal! She went through 9 nappies yesterday! My first daughter never had nappy rash, so it's all new to me!

Thanks simpleasabc, I have asked in Boots before but no joy and I went to a pharmacy where they gave me the Mustela cream. I'm off out now so will try Boots again. How long do things usually take to arrive when ordered from the website?

Have you tried asking at any of the Boots outlets here? If not, you could beg on the babies' board to see if someone has any spare they will let you have, or buy from here and hope it arrives quickly: http://www.chemistdirect.co.uk/metanium-nappy-rash-ointment_1_3407.html If you need a shop & ship address, you can use mine, put up your email addy and I'll send you my details if you want.
