Hi T85. Re freezing I think it would depend one on your age and two on how well u do with the meds during IVF treatments. If u r young and still have plenty of 'biological' time then I wouldnt make the already hectic schedule of a treatment worse by travelling far as u will most likely have good egg quality should u want another round. The other reason for freezing may be if u find yourself suffering from the side effects of the meds, a frozen cycle involves much less medication and will save you a lot of bloating-cramping-injecting-headaches etc. But if u do ok with the meds then again no worries. HTH BTW Im on day 7 of short protocol...1st scan tomorrow...let's c how well my apparently old self is reacting to the three daily injections!!! thank you for your reply. Im below 30 and our main issue is low sperm count so i guess i will not let the embryo freezing issue make my descion. wishing you all the best with the scan. good luck

Hi All, I just thought of something and would love some input. As i mentioned earlier i felt comfortable with Dr.Amal at al fakih clinic, the only thing is they dont freeze embryos as per dubai law. Is that a big negative? Should i do the treatment in a place that would freeze, which means in sharjah?

Thanks che731 and globetroller1 for your infos, Appreciate your sharing of experiences, i wish my journey will be as successful as you were, as I am on a high risk already (i'm already 36 YO). Time is essential for me.. though we've been TTC for almost 2 years until such time that my OB has referred me to my Dr now. Again thanks to you. Hoping for good news ahead :)

Good luck for the procedure Jinnbaby. I was sedated and pretty much in a deep slumber when they carried out the procedure. I have no idea what happened...it was all done when I opened my eyes in the recovery room:) The doctor will tell you how many eggs he recovered. However, as I mentioned earlier, you might feel a slight discomfort for a few days (sometimes a couple of weeks)...but nothing to worry about. Should not hamper your daily routine. Just rest it out for a day or two. The doctor will decide whether he will do a 3 day or 5 day transfer and let you know in a couple of days as to how many eggs actually fertilized. Then you, your husband along with the doctor's consultation will decide as to how many embryos u want to plant and whether or not you want to freeze the remaining ones. Once that is sorted out, the embryos will be planted in and then you have to wait for 2-3 weeks before you can take the test and hope for the desired result. Good luck my friend:) It will all go as you desire.

Thanks che731, tonight at 11:30pm is my scheduled egg retrieval. do you have any tips on what to do before the time comes? i'll be fasting for 8 hrs starting from 4pm today. what was your experience when you did it? Wow, good luck! I had my retrieval in the morning. I was sedated but still very conscious during the entire procedure. It was a bit painful but tolerable. The process took a little more than 20 minutes. After the procedure I was allowed to rest for an hour in the clinic and was then allowed to go home. I was groggy the rest of the day and just slept it off. The next day I felt much better and no residual pain. Still I was prescribed panadol for 2 days. My doctor told me how many "good" eggs were harvested. I had my retrieval on a Thursday too, then on Saturday I got a call from my doctor informing me how many was fertilized and how many was grade A. Best of Luck. Truly, my prayers and thoughts will be with you tonight.

Hi Jimnbaby, No discharges for me. But I did have a little cramping on my lower tummy, its very tolerable though. I thought it was because I was hyper-producing eggs and enlarging them. So I took it as a good sign! :) Still, best to ask your doctor. Good Luck with the scans, I really hope you get good size eggs! Jinnbaby, talk to your doctor about it. I did not have any pain before the egg retrieval, but every person and case is different. However, be prepared for some discomfort after the egg retrieval. Many thanks for your info. it was just a little pain below my abdomen. i will surely ask my doctor about it.

Yes, cut out caffeine. It was probably the most difficult thing I have to do after years of drinking 3-4 cups a day. Also, try to relax. I know, easy to say. I am an over thinker and worrier so you can just imagine how much crazy I have to reign in. :) Try to visualize positive thoughts as well, listen to calming music and read post of ladies getting a positive through IVF for inspiration. I also informed my husband that the treatment will wreck havoc on my hormones so expect extra (extra) mood swings. This helped a lot, I got ice creams and massages! :) Best of Luck to you T85!

T85, I just made sure I ate healthy (I am vegetarian) and did not worry too much about anything. The injections that you take are pretty much going to do the job. I would ask you to completely refrain from alcohol and smoking. Do cut down your caffeine intake if it is excessive; a cup a day will do no harm. Most importantly, be positive and relax. It will help you a lot.

Thanks for your response. I would like to know of any pointers or advice regarding how to prepare for IVF. Should I drink more milk (does it count if i have it with tea?)? eat something in particular? do I have to quit coffee all together? I would like to do all i can to make it work....

Hi All, CHE731... thank you for your reply.I will also make an appointment with New Hope as another option. can you provide the cost at that clinic? I will probably start treatment mid December. So I still have some time to think it through. I am so happy to hear that you have found a clinic and doctor that you are comfortable with. :) IIVF cost at New Hope is AED 15,500. IVF/ICSI is AED 22,000 it was only AED 19,000 a month or so ago. This above is cost is not inclusive of the meds and blood test. I have spent a total of AED 25,000+. We did IVF/ICSI but we were able to avail of the then lesser fee. My thoughts and prayers will be with you.. Keep us posted! :)

Hi All, I went to my initial consultation with Dr.Amal in Fakih Center. She was sweet, caring, attentive and helpful. Did not make me feel bad for any reason, (Dr. Mohammad actually said that at the start of your marriage you used birth control and now you are running to take medicines for children, which was very hurtful, but I ignored it) Anyways back to Dr. Amal. She looked at our test results, did ultrasound and said all looks good and to come back on the 2nd day of my next cycle to start the treatment. She gave me her mobile number incase I need anything and we have a “dedicated nurse” that will be available if I would like to come and discuss in more details. They noted that I do not live in dubai and so said they will teach me how to give myself the injections so I do not have to visit the clinic every time. The feeling I had walking out of the 2 clinics is incomparable. After leaving Dr.Mohd I felt very depressed, however with Dr.Amal I felt much more calm. I know this is nothing tangible but in my opinion this is a time when we should have a supportive doctor. ICSI costs is 28,000 Dhs including all medications. The difference is 6,000 Dhs and location (for me as previously mentioned Sharjah is a much better location) I have not yet made a final decision as 6,000 Dhs is not a small difference. I've been looking into a few fertility clinic as well. Went to Bourn Hall and had a consultation with Dr. David Robertson, I was really impressed with the clinic. It felt clean, new, the ladies at reception were kind. I saw the the lab through this viewing area which made me feel comfortable since I could see how clean and organised it looked. I went to do an egg assessment and general check up, Dr. Robertson was kind and made me feel comfortable. He took his time and I didn't feel like just another patient he was rushing along. I probably asked him a million questions! Beware though, parking is a bit tight in the morning, when I told the staff they mentioned they can open the parking gate if you call them 2min before you arrive. I recommend them. Good luck to you, aka & nicky!! edited by RTay on 18/11/2012

Hi I would like to have some feedback. Is it normal for a doctor not to know what will they do and what medications will be required until the day (again I do not know what is supposed to happen on that day) itself? Thanks edited by T85 on 08/11/2012 edited by T85 on 08/11/2012 Yes, its true to an extent but he could be more informative with you and less patronizing (I hate patronizing doctors!) For example with my treatment the doctor had no idea until my AMH was ascertained and my meds were a totally different spec to another woman (I compared notes and protocols with some other women here on EW) and so yes it differs a lot. Even when I started my meds she (Dr Munira - fabulous) only prescribed meds for 2 days and adjusted them after my first scan of my follicles. Its possible your meds will be adjusted every few days as they see how your body responds.

Hi I went for my second appointment with Dr.Ashraf and have a weird feeling. So I started asking about the procedure and he explained it, he said to come in after a couple of days to start treatment…then I wanted more details as in what medications I would have to take, what would happen in the next appointment.. and his reply was, I’m not in the mood to tell you (I think it was meant as a joke, but this is a very sensitive time for me). I asked again saying I need to be mentally prepared so I would like to have an idea about what would happen and his response was I cannot answer you now as I will only now then, he said it depends on your follicles and other things which you should not worry about this is my job all you have to do is exercise, eat fruits and vegetable and drink a lot of milk. His location and timings are great for me, I work late and live right next to the clinic. This is the main reason I would go back, he said he would accommodate me needing to see him at any time for injections and so on. I would like to have some feedback. Is it normal for a doctor not to know what will they do and what medications will be required until the day (again I do not know what is supposed to happen on that day) itself? The cost is 16,000 (ICSI is required for us) not including medications. The nurse said it would be around 22,000 as a total. I have an appointment next week with Dr.Amal (Fakih center) will update it with how that goes as well. Thinking of checking New Hope Center as well. 2 people here seem to have good feedback but for some reason i feel they are ads as the people posting have 2 or 3 posts only? i do not mean to offend anyone but just saying my thoughts. Anyways would love to hear more. Thanks edited by T85 on 08/11/2012 edited by T85 on 08/11/2012 Hi T85 I was again browsing on your posts and it seems that we have the same feelings/encounter with Dr Ashraf.. At first I was really not comfortable with him. can you keep me posted on how is your progress with him? i'll be back on the 15th of Nov to monitor the follicles. We are also on the same boat as he bluntly told us we need an IVF with ICSI and also told about the same cost... please keep me posted :)

Thank you for all your replies. At the moment I will go to Dr.Ashraf again just to follow up on our first appointment and see what his thoughts are. I will also go to Dr.Fakih and see what he thinks. Then who I feel more comfortable with I will complete the treatment with. I will keep you all posted. Thanks again! HI T85 I am new in this site.. I just want to ask you how was your treatment with Dr Ashraf at Enjab? I have started my treatment with him and now on various injections prescribed and will be back in a week time to monitor the progress. Did you continue your treatment with him? What stage are you right now? How is it? Appreciate your reply.. Thanks

When I read Ms. Zahra's post below, I thought she was an ad too! :) I am a lurker and I did not feel I have much to share until now. I posted my high regards for New Hope in the hope that it brings good news to others as well. This forum have help me shaped our decision and made me ask relevant questions during the visit to the doctors. I want to do my part as well. There is no harm in visiting several clinics, that was my intention at first. Make sure that you bring all the tests results, etc. I even wrote a history of my treatments just so I will not have to narrate over and over. I was charged AED 750 on my first visit to new hope (but this included an SA for the hubby). Dr. Fakih's clinic charged AED 300 for the visit. There are a lot of factors to consider before taking the IVF plunge. The stability of the clinic, success rate, etc. I think the Doctor's attention and how she made us comfortable was one of the factor that settled us with New Hope. Dr. Ghada spent a lot of time time with us and answered our questions with patience. I really can't thank her enough! All my best wishes to you and hopefully you will find a clinic that will make you comfortable enough to have peace of mind when you have the treatment.

Hey guys, I would really recommend Dr.Mohammed at DGFC. He put me and my husband completely at ease during our first appointment and explained our options. Once we were ready with the IVF, he and his team did a great job in making the process as smooth as possible. Thanks to their efforts, I am expecting my first baby in Dec. Cannot thank him and his team enough.
