Hello Ladies ,,,
I'm 33 weeks pregnant and i was following up so far in medcare,,, everything is fine with the baby..
But the closer the due- date comes, the more i'm panicking.
Simply i hate private hospitals, well i trust them in out-patient things but when it comes to admission, surgery or delievery,, i can't stand it. I prefer to be seen by team not one person.

My insurance covers goverment only in AD/Alain.
The issue is i'm living in Dubai, jebel ali.
The closest hospital is Al Rahba in abu-dhabi ( 50 mins away from home max ) , but i have no one in AD.
Or Al-Ain/ jemi Hospital in alain ( 1.5 hours ) but my sisters are living in alain and my mom is planing to come and stay with them around my giving birth time, plus since i used to live in alain i have alot of friends there.

Any one has experience in Al-Rahba hospital AD or Al-jeimi hospital AAN ?
Please any recommendation whill be highly appreciated ?

Yep, hubby there all through delivery, I delivered at1am and he stayed with us for a few hours after. Afterwards visiting is 10am t 10pm. Can't comment on having a female companion stay, I don't think it would be allowed but you would really need to ask. Re tour, I just wandered up to maternity and asked the nurses there if I could have a look around so I knew what to expect when I had my baby, the nurses were lovely and very accommodating, showed me the delivery room and answered my questions, although I guess I was lucky enough to go when they were quiet. If you are going to just turn up and try for walk in appointment my advice would be to get there early. If you want to chat offline you can get me at happy . Dhabi at g mail . C o m

I can't say for certain but I am pretty sure they would accept you at 33 weeks, why wouldn't they, when I switched here at around 6 months I did have to repeat all the blood tests etc but if you can get a copy of your records from the other hospital I am sure that would be helpful. They don't have a clinic off site, best to go to hospital, they do take some walk ins but it can get really busy best to call for an appointment, or even drive up and have a look around and make appointment when you are there. I heard that they will soon start a Saturday ob gyn clinic, this would have been super helpful for me last year, not sure if its started yet.. When I went you couldn't get a specific doctor, quite often seeing different one everytime, I am not sure if thiS has changed. If you are given the option which doctor to sEe try and get Dr Ritu, she is the head of the department and I thought she was excellent. I've called them in the morning, they didn't answer but then they called me back - wow, didn't know this is posssible in public hospital ! - anyway they gave appointment through the phone but it's after 3 weeks which will be very late, so i will go there in person and try to convince the doctors to give me earlier appointment. I asked them if i can have a tour in the hospital but the nurse in ante-natal clinic was not sure. It is less than 30 minutes driving from home, which makes it great option. I have few more question, did they allow the husband to stay while in delivery? and since my insurance covers for a private room, did they allow female escort to sleep over night ? jackieq513, thanx alot for all the help.

jackieq513, Thank you for your replay,, That is very assuring, I really want natural delivery and epidural is not a big deal for me. I have few questions if you don't mind, I'm 33 weeks so will they accept me or it's late ? Do they have a clinic in which i have to register or shall i go to the hospital directly ? Do you recommend any special ob/gyn ? Thanks in advance

Hi, I delivered in Al Rahba last April and had a very good experience. Waiting times for ob gyn appointments were not good, but on a par with corniche, but what I was most impressed with was the care for me and baby after delivery. I chose to deliver here after visiting a private hospital for some appointments where the doctor was nice, but has a bit of a reputation for the number of c sections performed. I asked should I open a file at corniche in case of complications and he recommended al Rahba instead, less busy, and they have a well regarded NICU there, so I figured if thats the best place, why wait until something goes wrong and I just transferred my pre natal care to al Rahba and wasn't disappointed. You will almost certainly have a private room (there's 22 beds, 17 private) and th nurses and midwives were excellent and helped us get breastfeeding off to a great start. The hospital was pro natural birth, which I also wanted. The only downside is that you can't guarantee an epidural during delivery unless it's an emergency, as there is not an anaetharist dedicated for maternity (it's a general hospital with a maternity ward), I ended up delivering without one, but hey, I lived to tell the tale and I'd do it all again. If you want any more specific info let me know, but I would definitely recommend a, Rahba and would choose to deliver there again . Ps good luck x

Green-ish and TanyaR, Thank you for your replay, I'm not worried about delivery it self, i'm aware that medcare is one of the best private hospitals in Dubai and that was the reason i chose it in first place. But unfortunately my insurance coverage is very limited in case anything goes wrong with the baby i.e NICU admission if in medcarem while it will be unlimited in AD. Another reason is i had witnessed many cases where the private hospitals refer the difficult cases to government -special in Dubai- and the answer came as No ! I know that i'm anxious person special i keep considering the worse senario although my pregnancy and my baby are totally fine so far, but i can't stop thinking about it. As i mention in my previous replay , i will keep following with medcare, but at the same time i will register and follow with alain, and seems i have to relocate if i considerd the second option. Thanks alot again for sharing your opinions and advice.

Spamm, I have heard great things about Corniche too, but it's in the centre of AD which makes it difficult option. The hospital with water-birth in Al-Ain is called Cormwell, It looks like five star hotel but its new and comparing to medcare since both are private, medcare is more established , i think. Macallan,, I totally agree with you, although i spent years in driving in Dubai-AD highway, but the 50 minutes may be longer in case of labour,, after thinking living in Al-ain after 36 weeks will be the safer option.

I agree with Green-ish, what is it exactly that you are worried about, and have you discussed with Medcare, you might be worrying unnecessarily? I have just (3 weeks ago) given birth at Medcare - my second child I have had there in the last 2 years. My experience with my care there has been very good, but I would have to say that my most recent experience was definitely much better than my first - I really 'enjoyed' the experience this time, and the staff and care was excellent. I didn't just have the OB I had been seeing throughout my pregnancy present at the birth, I was seen by the resident OBGYN on duty, and I had two nurses looking after me (who were absolutely fantastic in my opinion at consulting with me, and really knew what they were doing). My OB did arrive at 4am for the actually delivery of our baby, but the resident OB was there along with the nurses as well. My baby (and I) were monitored throughout the labour with monitors, and when there was a problem, they consulted with us clearly, I never at any stage felt they weren't equipped to deal with an emergency if it did arise. I should also note, that my labour lasted less than 3 hours from start to finish - so I wouldn't have wanted to be in a car for half of that travelling to a hospital, worrying I wasn't going to get there in time. Anyway, I don't know if that helps, but I just wanted to give you my recent account of my experience with Medcare. Obviously a number of the government hospitals have great reputations, but given your location issue, I would try and address any concerns you have directly with Medcare, and if they can't satisfy them, then consider change. Good luck

cafelate, what exactly are you worried about? Have you spoken to the team at Medcare so you understand exactly what their procedures are during labour and delivery? Sometimes just having the exact, correct, current information can be enough to put your mind at ease. If you voice your concerns, you might find they can make you feel much more relaxed about it all. You won't know how long your labour and birth will take until it's all happening. You really don't want to plan for a long drive to hospital when you have an option close by. Plenty of women have to travel a lot further than that for child-birth, but it's a potential stress you can easily avoid. If you do decide to deliver at one of the other hospitals, you need to make sure ASAP that you still have time to register there and develop a relationship with their staff. The Al Ain/AD hospitals will probably want their OB's of midwives to see you and collect a history and to get certain tests done (again). I agree with Macallen, that if you decide on one of the distant hospitals, you should consider staying very near there for the last 4-6 weeks of your pregnancy. Best wishes with your decision and enjoy these last weeks of your pregnancy.

You don't want to give birth on the side of the road. So unless you are planning to relocate after about 36 weeks to be close to chosen government hospital, your best bet is to deliver in Medcare. With a baby, you are really only "seen" for the last hour or so anyways.
