Miss Faye08 - how do you know there is a fine to pay? Silly question I'm sure. But my DH had an accident last month near Baraccuda, it wasn't another car involved, it was a donkey!!! Don't ask! The police gave him a white copy, he never mentioned there was a fine to pay.

I can understand your frustration OP but even if the other driver is driving like an inconsiderate idiot, that doesn't mean you can pull in front of him and hope he will stop. I don't think that's the point, Daza, the same thing has happened to me three times in the past couple of days, I've been indicating to join a road from a slip road which is coming to an end, and instead of allowing me into the space that should be ample for my car, the driver coming up from behind (more often than not, a taxi-driver, for some unknown reason), [b'>deliberately speeds up[/b'> to stop me from joining the road. I nearly had an accident myself the other day, for that very reason. maybe they think they're speeding up to get out of your way so you can pull over - it may be safer than hanging back if they're unable to pull across.... I have also noticed that its always taxis who speed up when you want to join another road (even though you are indicating). Guess it makes them feel better being spiteful all the time. They obviously havent heard of karma...

Hi. I was recently in an accident in Sharjah, the other driver got a white sheet and he was completely at fault, he ran into me on a roundabout - so unfortunately I do think the blame has gone to you. Thank you for your feedback. I'm just gonna pay the fine, good thing it's 50% off in Sharjah. I guess that's life :) and thanks for answering the question. Got so many people judging me here geez!

It is a merging road, and I have no other choice but to join the lane. Anyway, I see it unfair because the driver already saw half of my car was already in but he still didn't want to give way but instead pushed through knowing he could hit me, which he did. Is there a law prohibiting changing lanes in Dubai? I see tons of drivers everyday changing lanes WITHOUT using the signal. At least I use the signal to let others what I plan to do next. I respect your opinion, if that's how you see it. you could have waited - indicating doesn't give you the write to hit another car; which is what you did if you drove into his lane and both cars touched...... I didn't just signal and then drove to the lane just like that. Of course I waited until I saw that the distance is pretty safe, I just didn't know that the car will speed up more instead of giving way. I am here to ask if anyone knows about the white slip I got from police, not to be judged. I already got the verdict from the police which I duly respected so please, do not tell me "indicating doesn't give you the RIGHT to hit another car" as if I did it on purpose and secondly, I am not the abusive type of driver, I follow all traffic rules and etiquette. it was an accident. I believe no one wanted it to happen. edited by miss_faye08 on 24/04/2013

One of my hates on the road here. You indicate to let people know you want to move and they speed up so to move across becomes dangerous. Worst is when your lane is about to end and no one wants to let you in.. Exactly! no wonder why a lot of drivers don't use signals anymore. The thing is, when they see the indicator, they will speed up so as not to let you move.

sorry but in my opinion if the other car hit you there clearly wasn't enough room for you to move over... I have to say there's plenty of room to move over. He just speed up more even when he saw I was already halfway there. thanks

So true about indicating your intention to move resulting in being prevented by selfish people who think they own the road. Driving is manners and that says it all. Yesterday I was stopped behind a school bus that had its red sign out and flashing while it was droping kids off and an idiot behind overtook me and the bus as the children were stepping out across the road, thankfully they were not hit. He then drove off at high speed, I tried to catch his plate number but he went off too fast. Idiots like that should have their licences taken away.

And what about the prats who overtake you on the merging slip road and totally cut off your safe route on to the main road. You need eyes in the back of your head I sometimes feel like I am one of those demented dolls who's head spins round and round!

Worst is when your lane is about to end and no one wants to let you in.. Yes, this!! If they see your indicator, they speed up! I have taken to not always using mine when I want to change lanes, it's actually safer in some cases! (Don't worry, I am not reckless, am always careful to judge the situation and not take risks). It just irks me that instead of helping you merge in a safe manner, they speed up to prohibit you.

Indicating to get out from a slip road seems to be a signal for cars to close up, squeeze you and refuse to allow you out. I have lost count of the number of times I try to move out from a slip road but am forced back in........I spend more time looking in my mirrors than I do looking ahead... miss_faye08. In UK when you indicate then as long as the distance between you and car behind is sensible then generally people let you out. Maybe one in ten try to thwart you and bully you BUT in Dubai I find it exactly the opposite. MAYBE 1 in 10 (if you're lucky!) will let you out. The rest do everything they can not to let you change. Indicating appears to be a signal to some drivers that they MUST do everything they can to stop you changing lane! I guess I've learned to indicate and GRADUALLY move out, checking all the time to see if they're going to let me out. If not, you have to pull back over.

Worst is when your lane is about to end and no one wants to let you in.. It happens so many times a day here, it's as if it were in the Highway Code here! I've just had a ridiculous experience on the Al Satwa Road, where I stopped to let a Filipino man and a gardener on a bicycle cross on a Zebra crossing. The Filipino thanked me as if this had never happened to him before.. Judging by the taxi which pulled up and had to stop beside me also and shook his head exaggeratedly at me as if I were mad to have stopped for anyone to cross, it is an unusual occurrence here. Why? Earlier in the afternoon, I stopped at traffic lights on the Al Wasl Road, indicating I was going to turn right, and an idiotic woman in a Pajero decided to come up beside me using the bus stop layby to my right to overtake me and go in front of me when the lights changed. WTF? ETA: Sorry, OP, no idea what a white slip means in Sharjah, just keen to add my surreal experiences on Dubai roads today. edited by simpleasabc on 22/04/2013

Hello All, I live in Sharjah but work in Dubai. On the way to Emirates Road, mycar was hit by another car from the back. I was properly using signal and made sure everything is ok before I went to the other lane but I guess the other car didn't want to give way so even if he saw I was already changing lanes, he still pushed forward and hit me. I reported it to the police and got the shock of my life when the police said it was my fault. The damage is not really that bad, only some paint were scratched off. The police said because it was the other car's lane, it somehow gives him the right to hit me o.O The police gave me the white copy of the report, and a pink copy to the other party. What I know is that in Sharjah, the pink copy goes to the faultless party and the green one to the party who bears fault. However, what about in this case? I have the white copy what does it mean? I am so sad having to pay in excess when I claim insurance for this. It feels so unfair! I know it wasn't my fault but I can't do anything about it! Can anyone please let me know what does it mean to get a white copy? Many thanks in advance! edited by miss_faye08 on 22/04/2013
