I was just wondering if it is the norm in Dubai for a TA to not be entitled to benefits such as Annual Flights and Live Out Allowance? Or does anyone know of schools that do offer these for their TAs?

I would be very surprised if any schools offer this. KHDA does not allow schools to sponsor TA's which means they are all on local contracts...meaning a (low) salary and possibly health insurance (self only) and nothing else. Any idea where I might find the rules on KHDA not allowing sponsoring of TAs? I've looked on the KHDA website but can't find anything. Thanks It's not on their website. I worked in a school (until recently) and we were told we weren't allowed to sponsor TA's. I know that some schools do, but not all schools follow the rules. I don't think it's the law. I have only worked in schools in Dubai and some TAs were sponsored in exceptional circumstances. It is really up to the school itself. Once you are sponsored they are legally obligated to provide medical otherwise not. Generally speaking other benefits aren't provided but again that is at the discretion of the school not the law.

May have to delve elsewhere for the 'rules' on that one ....

Most schools don't offer sponsorship for TA's. They specify they are looking for those sponsored by spouse or father. Just have a look on the EW job page, schools advertising mention clearly what they are looking for and what they offer.

I'm pretty sure some of the Repton TA's are sponsored by the school.

All schools, and many business too, have certain jobs that are designed to be filled by people who are already sponsored by their spouse. TA's would certainly fit in that category. Many schools even have full time, qualified and certified teachers that do not receive these benefits, because they are already receiving them from their spouse, and legally you can not receive these benefits twice. So yes, in short, very normal and very common. edited by gardenlover on 31/01/2014
