Does anyone else dread shopping here?

I really want new stuff - for work, casual, evening........

But every time I go I can't find anything, there is loads of horrid stuff in the shops at the moment, I'm not afraid of fashion, colours, new styles but everything just seems to be awful. Anyone know what I mean??

I am a size 12 too which does not seem to go well with current fashions - everything that I do like only looks good on teeny people.

So other than going on a diet (try every week and fail after a day) - any ideas? Has anyone been in a shop recently and liked what they saw? I really want to go on a bit of a spree this weekend but would love to actually leave with a few shopping bags instead of nothing! Down to my last pair of work trousers now.......:(

Could it be that its not the clothes in the store that you dont like but the fashion trend nowadays....I remember I went through the same thing a couple of years ago and I realised it wasnt the stores it was actually the fashion at that time that I didnt like. Skinny jeans were really in and although I am not very big (Im a size 10, but I have a small waist so a very distorted waist to hip ratio), I looked hideous and just could not wear them. Nowadays - high waisted jeans, shorter Tshirt looking shirts are in fashion and I do find that unless you are really comfortable with this style and have small hips, you may tend to look bigger than you are or would like to look. You may have to experiment a little to find out - (I have seen some big women look very elegant and some very slim women look trashy) I dont have any new shops to suggest (than the ones mentioned below), however you really need to keep looking and go into shops where u have not been before, to find something. I agree with you 100% the problem is the fashion, I like them when i see me younger sister wearing them as she is very slim and got a nice body.. I am considered to be slim but after having two babies i dont see my body fit to all types of fashions with the humps in my body especially my belly.

another store has opened recently with some regular priced daily wear... it's called M&Co... probably worth a visit if ur in Dubai Mall... else have a walkaround some of the stores in Mirdif City Centre... they have many stores there that are not common to the other malls...

promod is quite good. i am a size 16 and their xlarge and size 16s fit, depending on style and material. i do find on the whole clothes are more expensive than the uk and sizing in some stores leaves a lot to be desired, next tends to be awkward sizes. new look can be alright and so can h and m. again depends on material and style for fit. dream girl are pretty awful, i wouldnt go back, they take too long to do things and the clothes are badly made. <em>edited by fairwater on 24/06/2012</em>

Dibdab I hear you! first time in ages I went for a shop this weekend and I couldn't find anything, but my hubby found loads of stuff, I felt things in the womens section were made poorly and after having my baby my fashion taste has changed, its hard for me to find stuff that are stylish/fashionable but also child proof! The clothes back home in Oz are great but come at a price too, so i can't win! With online shopping the stuff that looks great on the models probably wouldn't look good on me, so I need to try them on before buying. But I do LOVE Dubai shopping for shoes and bags! ....... anyway goodluck with finding something ! ;o)

I have took some clothes to Satwa as everyone said they are great but 2 pieces were ruined & badly finished :( Sure, she has over 20 years experience in New Zealand, so she is not like Satwa's shops. I agree with dibdab, I could not find anything as well. I gave up and went and bought some fabric, however, found out after I bought fabric that the tailor's are all booked up with holidays/Ramadan approaching. Dream Girls told me at least one month for the few simple pieces I wanted. I did find another tailor though who was able to get them for me in a reasonable time. I like Prima Moda at MOE - cattycorner from Debenam's and across from Harvey Nichols - Ground Floor. Even though I think the are for "larger sizes", they are cut well and more form fitting. You would certainly be able to fit their smaller/est sizes.

As well as the lack of selection and ugly styles, most of the stuff (blouses especially) are made of cheap nylon-ish fabric, and the overall finishing quality is dire - especially for the prices. It's really though the way the world is going, cheap throw-away clothing from chain stores - ugh - but there really isn't much other choice for realistic prices. Zara, Mango, H&M, River Island, F21, most woman in Dubai wear the same and look the same because they shop at the same stores. When I compliment someone on what they are wearing, inevitably the items were purchased overseas..... Have you tried on-line shopping?

I can relate. I get most of my clothes back home for this reason. If you have a pair of trousers that you like, take them to Satwa and have them copy them. I've done this with a few pairs. It depends what your budget is, but have you tried Zara or Mango? I shop everywhere here Zara, Mango, Debenhams, Top Shop, RI the list is endless! Personally i feel their are toooo many shops and i could spend spend spend! agh ditto ditto ditto

Yeah, I find it so hard to explain to DH that despite there being so many brands here, I have so much trouble finding something :( I do wish there was an Urban Outfitters here, though. I love their stuff, but have failed miserably trying to Shop n Ship because I just can't get the sizes right.
