The Milo we have found tastes nothing like the Milo in Australia. I miss Athena yoghurt, huge ranges of Arnotts biscuits...Cadbury blocks of chocolate always on sale for $1.99 and Blue Ribbon ice-cream (ice-cream is expensive here) and Smith's chips!! And I miss the races...loved going to the races during Spring Carnival...dressing up, champers, friends...

Good old Whittaker's chocolate, V and Jarrah coffee. Found Milo so all good on that front. :)

Snow. Real snow that ou can make snow men out of and make real snowballs. and eating a fondue in front of the fire while it snows outside and everything has gone quiet! Also missing decent sausages (bratwurst), walking everywhere I go, Laeckerli (type of biscuit from Basel, yum must remember to ask my mum to bring some!), the lakes and the mountains... Swiss S that sounds so lovely! have always been a fan of keeping snug in winter, walks and candle light. And of course decent sausage!

Oh, for the ladies lamenting about flowers... I bought some from the flower man inside the Lifco supermarket near EK Towers metro station on SZR (Crowne Plaza side) and they lasted 21 days! Sure I had to change the water every 2/3 days but I found putting some lemonade or sugar in seemed to help. I don't have much experience iwth the roses, they lasted about a week with fresh water, the carnations & daisy-type things lasted at least 2 weeks when looked after. Several friends who used to live in the area have said they found them the best as well. I think I paid 30dhs for 8 pink carnations and he put in the little white lacey flowers and ferns as well when I told him I'd be putting them in a vase. So maybe worth a shot trying this one. The roses seem much cheaper than back home and he has some really pretty colours too (orange with pink edges etc)

Just thought of one more... Internet banking!! Well I know you can get it here, but in my case it's been a process of 'how much can the bank mess everything up to the point you just get by without it now' lol.... Been here well over a year and they somehow still can't manage to give me internet banking! I'm lucky enough that I travel regularly so I just try to take cash back with me to put in my account, or use the UAE exchange to do a transfer. 50dhs fee was fine, what I didn't realise (and they didn't tell me!) was that the Commonwealth Bank charges AUD$20 to 'receive' the money. Um, why?! Oh I love Internet banking here !!!! Its fab compared to what we get in the UK ! In the UK we have so many pins/ passwords/ card readers just to log in !!!!!! and then to transfer .. cripes ! again card readers authentication numbers and you cant even transfer money to a non UK account :( here I can transfer money online to my UK account no probs !

Dubai has hundreds of Indian restaurants but none of them (according to EW`ers) knows now how to make a ''real'' curry?? What a load of cobblers The gap between Indian-Turry and Brit-turry has closed massively, since them days when some UK based Indian chef threw a can of tomato soup on some grilled chicken tikka in the 1950s and called it Tikka Masala What's your point? edited by Wild Mint on 07/10/2011

I have no relation to India or UK whatsoever but statements like this sound very arrogant to me... The truth is that British Curry is ACTUALLY NOTHING like proper curry that is made by indian people .. Most of india .. I am let to believe don't use meat ..its too darned expensive .. Curry in England is Sweet and creamy .. and the Indian curry houses aim at the brits taste .. Most brits are used to home grown curries .. Tikka Massala doesnt even exist in Indian cooking .... Chicken Tikka Massala is the most common curry to be ordered in the UK ... I don't believe its arrogant - I believe its an opinion - an Un educated one possibly in the worlds foods....
