Hi Narjees, Did you install the security cams in your house? If yes, can you please help me with the quotes you got and who you finally went with? We are looking to install as well, as we have a baby on the way and moving to a new place. Thanks a bunch.

Ok everyone, thanks for your thoughts and ideas. After putting lots of thought to it, we've decided to go for the open camera system. I will contact maxcom and ask them to come and install the cameras. I think it's the best thing to do. Zengirl, thank you, your comments helped me most in clearing my mind and deciding what's best for my baby.

I'll repeat, it's illegal to use hidden cameras almost everywhere in the GCC including the UAE. You could try to get police permission to install them but I would think they would need some kind of evidence that abuse was taking place.

While the hidden cameras may be available, IT IS ILLEGAL to film anyone without their knowledge and consent, not only in UAE but in most of the GCC. Sure, it may be helpful if the maid/nanny might be abusing her position or (heaven forbid) your child. But she can turn around and have you charged with an illegal act. Are you prepared for those consequences? A couple in Qatar were denied a renewal of their residency simply for trying to buy a nanny cam, let alone using one.

do you think perhaps you should look after your children yourself? afterall, what was the point in having them if someone else is going to raise them? perhaps you could leave this thread without this kind of comment? There were and are so many mothers that have to leave their kids under someone else's supervision (nanny, grandparents, extended family) cause one income is just not enough to support the family or there is one income altogether (single mothers). WELL SAID!!!

I have heard some people bought theirs at Dragonmart. Theres plenty of people who use hidden cameras. Who are we to judge? Your an adult and you make your own choices in life.

yes, but if the nanny will know about the camera, how will I know how she will treat the baby when she's not watched? What if she neglects the baby when she's taking her down for a stroll or to the supermarket? Or say in kids play?I want to be able to trust her with the baby in such situations... I mean isn't the piont of a nannycam being able to see how tha nanny will treat your child when she thinks she's on her own and not under watch??

you can contact a company called maxcom ( www.maxcom.ae) they will come to your house install the camera and the software in your computer. each camara cost 1250 AED and installation cost is 500 AED. you can check it from anywhere. it can also record. just be open about it and don't hide it, it is not nice. tell your nanny that you need to check on your kid when you are away, this is why you put the camara that's all. maxcom is very reliable.

If it was me I would just get normal household security cameras and be open about it rather than find myself scuttling around monitoring in secret. Let the maid know that the house is monitored. It protects you from accusations of indecency etc too. Obviously you can't put them in private areas like the bathroom/bedroom but you can have the doors covered by the camera and tell the maid that she isn't allowed to take the baby into those rooms while you're not in the house unless the door is left open (or whatever you decide) Yes we are planning on doing something similar, when we do eventually get a maid - tell her the cameras are there for her protection as well, so that if something happens in the home that is not her fault there is proof.

It's illegal to put hidden cameras, but you could get home cameras and be open about it. Etisalat can provide it. Also you could check company called Security Zoom on Facebook - they also provide Home CCTVs edited by dramaqn on 15/08/2012

Hello everyone. I'm in the process of hiring a Nanny for my nine month old baby. I had a bad experience with another nanny/maid last June.I had hired her from an agency. My husband knew the supervisor for ten years and he recommended and guaranteed her. She appeared to be very fond of my baby and always playing and singing to her and taking care of her with lots of patience when I was around. Then after a while when I trusted her enough, I left the baby in her care for 3 hours in the evening when I went shopping, for 2 nights. My 13 year old son and 10 year old niece were also home. Afterwards my son told me that the baby had cried and screamed for 15 minutes each night. He had even recorded the baby's sound on his iphone because he thought I won't believe him. I confronted the nanny and at first she denied it, then when I had her listen to the recorded crying she apologised.I fired her of course, but like any other Mom out there I'm very sensitive to my children's well being so you can just imagine how awful I felt and how I blamed myself with trusting her in the first place. Anyway this time I'm definatly playing it safe and although I trust this new nanny and she's great with the baby when I'm there but I want to put hidden cameras around the house and check how she will treat the baby when I'm not home. I have no experience with hidden cameras and no idea which shops I can buy it from and how will it work. Where should I hide the cameras for good coverage, etc? Please if you can help me with this it will mean a great deal.
