I'd go to a male hairdresser and dentist, but seems a bit strange having a guy do a manicure. Maybe if he batted for the other side I might consider it, I mean what do you talk about, nail polish? . edited by Alismum on 01/12/2014 In all the UAE salons I ever went to, the girls were far too busy talking to each other for a client to get a word in!

No way. Never. A guy touching my feet? Ugh. Manicure is for the hands. He will not touch your feet. Feet or hands ... No way! Facial or massage ... Never! Is it even legal? Perhaps you could find a man in the big tourist hotels but in local salons (there are male hair stylists, I know). edited by mrsb. on 01/12/2014 Where do you stand on male dentists?

There was an amazing podiatrist at The One and Only Royal Mirage, don't know if he is still there, his name was Bastien Gonzales. He did wonders!

As others have said, as long as he is good at his job then I wouldn't be remotely concerned. If it's in a salon I doubt he's be after molesting my hands. I had make up done by a guy in a Mac store in KL and he did a much better job than the trowel-merchant women in the DFC Mac store. edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 01/12/2014

When I went to cosmetology school in my conservative hometown 20 yrs. ago, 25% of the students were male. One of our best students was male. He was covered head to toe in tattoos, and little old ladies would book him solid for their sets and comb outs every week in our student shop. Quite a sight :) In the big city, half the hairstylists were male, that was nothing out of the ordinary. Even had some male wax technicians, although the only male nail techs I knew were in stand alone nail salons. We had a lot of Vietnamese owned shops and these guys were meticulous and incredible. Now when I worked as a makeup artist, that was also even numbers men and women. Most clients would prefer the men at the counters, assuming they were better because they were "fabulous." One of my colleagues would whine that he never got a proper lunch break due to this. In the beauty world, you just cannot judge a book by its cover. I was one of the only white clients of my hairdresser back home (the salon specialized in African hair, relaxers, weaves, etc) and she understood and cut my hair better than anyone. But I digress...this thread is about women being comfortable with men, sorry :)

I have just come back from Melbourne and funnily enough there was a very popular salon near where I was staying - a sort of walk in nail bar place that was always busy -and 3 out of the 6 nail technicians were men. They seemed to have plenty of customers as it was always full. I suppose it is all a matter of perception and what you are used to.

A friend here used to be a make-up artist for MAC in Mercato, he was incredible. Far better than the women.

I find male hairdressers & male massage therapists are usually better also I have had masseurs and hairdressers but never come across any for mani/pedis I find the male makeup artists in MAC at home are amazing! Ye once was in Ireland & once in Budapest. Oh I forgot about MAC....they are brilliant !!!

I couldn't care less, so long as they do a good job. The best massages I've ever had have been done by men - some of them here. It's their job.

No way. Never. A guy touching my feet? Ugh. Manicure is for the hands. He will not touch your feet. Same difference, no way I allow any man to touch any part of my body. Unless I am dying and need urgent medical care.

Yep, wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I would say it is illegal in Dubai for men to work in standalone salons as they will be ladies only but not salons within the hotels.

I'm surprised that's actually legal here!

Have not seen a male manicurist but I would not have any problems, if he is good at it. I had male massage therapists many times. In my country massage is more like a physiotherapy medical thing than wellness, and most therapists are male and very very good in relaxing muscles and dissolving knots.
