*whispers* I use one when I'm out with the dog as it means I have my hands/arms/back free but can still carry tissues, dog poo bags, phone and GPS. I hate the word fanny, full stop (I was going to say 'period' but that's another word I don't like).

'advise' when it is used in the wrong context such as "can you give me some 'advise' it should be advice. (noun) Advise is a verb

I hate the words "fanny" esp when used by americans referring to your bum (in the UK it has a whole different meaning!!) and the "V" word relating to the place that the UK is on about when americans say fanny! Im cringing and pulling a face just typing about them and cant even bring myself to type the "V" word in full! My Canadian husband calls bum-bags 'fanny packs' SIMPLY because he knows it makes me cringe. Although I did snigger and (post a photo on FB) when I saw 'fanny packs' for sale in Canada EEEewwwww!! thats just grim!!! not the product, but the fact its called that! Altho, bum-bags are actually pretty grim themselves!!

What or huh instead of pardon. 'Pardon' is disliked by the upper class, apparently. Read 'Watching the English' by Kate Fox. Hilarious! Can someone please elaborate on this? To me upper or lower class, what just sounds rude! Pardon is so much more polite. Nancy Mitford, (English aristo) in her article “The English Aristocracy” published with other essays about social classes in "Noblesse Oblige", (1950's) made the distinction between "what" and "pardon" (and many other "U" and "Non-U" words). She also maintained that you should eat peas with a spoon, or something - maybe from your knife, not the fork, or maybe one at a time from the fork tines, I can't remember. Thank you, I will look this up. edited by Irooni on 21/11/2011

MAID! Why? Many of the girls are very proud to be a good "maid"...it's their preferred job title and carries honour (for some) in their home countries. See Suzy's thread called "What would you do if your maid threw a valuable item out in the bin?" :) Oh...yikes! :D

SZR Why VP? Is it the laziness? I'm just too lazy to write the whole name each time. :D I don't mind it written (and have used it myself) but I hate it when people say it. AH...I'm with you on that! Especially if they say "Zee". lol
